Gardaí investigate crash in Laois village

A parked car and flower pots were damaged during the incident in Clonaslee on Sunday morning
GARDAÍ are investigating an early morning hit-and-run that caused extensive damage in a local village at the weekend.
The driver of a white saloon car fled the scene, after smashing into a parked car and flower pots outside an old church in Clonaslee.
The incident happened at about 4.30am on Sunday, when a car crashed at Slieve Bloom Park in the village.
Posting pictures from the scene on social media, the Clonaslee Tidy Towns group said: “A lot of damage caused by the driver of a white saloon car, who left the area heading towards Rosenallis direction.’ The saloon crashed outside the old Church of Ireland building after mounting a pavement, destroying flower pots and damaging a Toyota car that was in a parking bay on the side of the street.
The saloon is also believed to have sustained considerable damage in the collision. The group said: ‘A lot of damage to their car, particularly the driver’s side and exhaust system from the sounds of it, with damage to our flower pots located there.’ The incident has been reported to gardaí, who are making enquiries.
