GARDAÍ seized a car from a driver they dubbed the Grinch in a busy Laois town this morning.
The Grinch was not only hogging a disabled parking space in Abbeyleix but also had no insurance or L plates and was unaccompanied on a learner permit.
Gardaí said ‘Bah, Humbug!’ and impounded the car, which was subsequently towed away from a disabled parking bay on Main Street.
In a social media post titled ‘How the Grinch parked Christmas’, gardaí said members of the Laois Roads Policing Unit (RPU) were on patrol in Abbeyleix when they spotted ‘a familiar festive villain move’, as the vehicle had no disabled permit displayed.
It emerged that the Grinch didn’t stop at stealing parking spaces, as a quick word with the driver revealed a litany of other offences, including no insurance.
Gardaí said: ‘At that point, Christmas cheer was shrinking and the list of offences growing. Vehicle: Seized. Disabled Bay: Freed. Grinch: Walking home to Whoville.’
The driver got a €150 fine for parking in a disabled bay and faces a court appearance for other offences.
