Heartbreak over 'bag of bones' dog in Laois

The weak and emaciated puppy is being looked after by Laois SPCA volunteers
THE discovery of an emaciated dog in Portlaoise has caused upset and heartbreak for animal rescue volunteers.
The puppy is so thin that he was described as ‘a little bag of bones’ by the Laois Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
Only about eight weeks old, the little dog was in such an appalling state that a volunteer thought he was dead when she went to pick him up.
A woman contacted Laois SPCA, after she found the extremely weak puppy this morning just off the town’s Ballyfin Road.
Posting distressing photos on social media, Laois SPCA said the pup is just ‘a little bag of bones, hardly able to stand and covered in mange’.
The charity said: ‘Our volunteer thought the puppy was dead when she went to pick him up. He is now safe in our vets getting the care he needs. Thanks to the lady who contacted us.'
Appealing for information, the SPCA said: ‘If he is in this state, his siblings must be the same. If anyone knows where this little guy came from or where his siblings are, please contact 086 4169559. All information received will be treated in confidence.’
Laois SPCA volunteers have named the rescued puppy Pablo and would welcome donation to help with his veterinary care and recovery. Any amount, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated.
