Hidden CCTV cameras to be deployed in fight against illegal dumping in Laois

Hidden CCTV cameras will soon be deployed across Laois to detect and identify illegal dumper
LAOIS County Council will be erecting hidden CCTV cameras is certain areas around the county in an attempt to detect and identify illegal dumper.
The council’s director of services Simon Walton said that the council’s plans to erect CCTV cameras is progressing well, and he hopes that the approval will be given for them from the Data Protection Commissioner shortly.
Speaking at the January meeting of Laois County Council he said: “There are GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) guidelines in place for local authorities whereby for each and every site that the council wish to consider deploying CCTV cameras with the view to enforcing illegal litter dumping legislation, is requires to have a GDPR Risk Assessment undertaken. These have to be submitted to the Data Protection Commissioner and signed off before we can deploy them. We will be putting forward a number of sites for consideration by the Data Protection Commissioner, with a view to rolling out these covert CCTV cameras.”
