THE IDA has been given permission by Laois County Council to carry out development at its 45-acre site along the Mountrath Road in Portlaoise.

The planning approval allows the IDA to proceed with extending its internal road network of about 170 metres, the installation of two new bridges over water courses and various footpaths and the installation of public lighting to make the site ready for new industry.

Welcoming the news The Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and local TD Sean Fleming said that he had spoken with both the Chief Executive Officer and also the Chairman of IDA Ireland Michael Lohan and Feargal O’Rourke and said, “the IDA is fully committed in getting a suitable business or businesses to come and set up an industry at this location which will benefit employment here in Laois.

“I am now urging the IDA to proceed as quickly as possible with the works they have been approved for so that they can immediately have the site ready when they have a suitable IDA client or clients to come to this site.

“Overall, this is good news for Laois. The original acquisition of this site, which I urged the IDA to complete a couple of years ago, is now on the move in terms of bringing new IDA jobs to Laois.”
