Having regard to cumulative rainfall in recent weeks, the current Yellow Rain Warning in place until 11pm today (Wednesday), forecasted rainfall for the next 24 to 36 hours, saturated ground conditions and bank full river conditions throughout County Laois, Laois County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team notifies as follows:

There is an ongoing risk of localised flooding across the road network in County Laois. Drivers are urged to drive in accordance with prevailing conditions and to not ignore road closure signage, where such signage is in place.

Property owners in other areas vulnerable to flooding, including areas of Portarlington and Mountmellick, can monitor river levels on waterlevel.ie. In Portarlington and Mountmellick, the risk of flooding increases as water levels exceed the Median Annual Maxima Level. The Graph Reference Numbers, on waterlevel.ie, are 14005 (Portarlington) and 14121 (Mountmellick).

Laois County Council crews, including Municipal District Area Staff, Fire and Emergency Services and Civil Defence Volunteers are on standby, with sand-bags and pumps at the ready, to assist where flood events emerge.
