A LANDMARK antique shop with a rich history in Abbeyleix is up for sale, with a guide price of €380,000.

The Antique Shop on Market Square, built by the de Vesci family in the late 18th century, is on the list of protected structures in the beautiful heritage town.

Originally a single-storey property, the building dates back to the 1770s when the town was planned and built by the de Vesci family. It was later expanded to two storeys and has been a business outlet for many generations, with an extensive residential section.

Prominently located on a corner near the junction with the Ballinakill Road, the shop is a familiar sight to anyone driving through the town.

The 1,375 m² building went on the market on 1 August with Portlaoise-based CBPM Real Estate, who describe it as ‘a prime investment opportunity’.

The property consists of two double-storey buildings in an L-shape formation and a large shed out the back, together with a large, dedicated car park.

The estate agents say: ‘With some work and TLC, these buildings can be restored to their original beauty. The property benefits from generous front display windows. Due to its location, the property enjoys a high level of foot traffic and passing vehicles.’
