Laois band to feature on RTÉ TV series

A PORTLAOISE band is to feature on the final series of RTÉ’s hugely popular
.The TV series follows young bands as they plan and organise their first big hometown gig. The final in the series on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player on Monday 14 July at 8pm will see a performance by Laois four-piece rock band BYRO, formerly known as COOLBOY.
The Portlaoise-based band consists of Fionn Devoy (lead guitar), Tadgh O’Dwyer (guitar and lead vocals), Ruairi Phelan (drums) and Alex Power (bass guitar).
They derive their musical influences from classic rock bands such as The Beatles and Thin Lizzy, as well as modern artists ranging from Catfish to The Backseat Lovers and the Bottlemen.
The band have also released their debut single High Tide and have performed at various venues, including Kavanagh's Bar in Portlaoise and Ramsbottom's in Stradbally.
Mentoring BYRO on the upcoming TV show will be Independent Irish singer and guitarist Síomha. Known for her folk, jazz and neo-soul performances, she effortlessly takes audiences on an unexpected and unforgettable journey with her soulful melodies.
She has toured extensively across Europe, the UK, North America and Australia captivating audiences with her unique sound at renowned festivals and performances worldwide.
Coolboy formed in the autumn of 2023. However, since the shooting of
, they have gone through style and line-up changes to perform as BYRO.
