Laois club reports threatening letter to gardaí

The threatening letter has been reported to gardaí

A LAOIS club has reported an anonymous threatening letter received by a member to gardaí.

Portlaoise AFC, the largest soccer club in the county, said this evening that the intimidating letter sent to a club member is not something the club is ‘willing to tolerate or accept’.

The club confirmed that the letter has been reported to gardaí for investigation.

While the club has not disclosed specific details contained in the anonymous letter, it said that it is taking the incident very seriously.

In a post on the club’s social media page today, Portlaoise AFC said: ‘ A club member in our club has received an anonymous letter which is of a threatening nature.

‘Intimidation is not something Portlaoise AFC are willing to tolerate or accept. The matter has been reported to the An Garda Siochána.

‘This is a matter that we are taking very seriously and all support will be given to the club member. This type of behaviour and action goes completely against the values we have at Portlaoise AFC.’

The club added: ‘We value all our playing members and the volunteers and coaches that are giving their time for the betterment of Portlaoise AFC.

‘We’ve recently had the local community gardaí in to give talks to our u12 and u14 age groups and the main message from them was to tell someone if somebody/something is bothering you. Usually it stops then. This is good advice for us all - children and adults.’
