LAOIS Co Council has opened the doors of 58 social and voluntary homes at locations across the county.

The developments were formally opened by Cllr Barry Walsh, cathaoirleach of the council.

The houses are located in St Kieran’s, Errill; Moore Street, Rathdowney; Mooreville Terrace, Rathdowney; Shannon Street, Mountrath; and Wallis Street, Mountrath.

Cllr Walsh said: “I am delighted to officially open these excellent developments in the Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick municipal district. The provision of these 58 new homes will make a real difference to the lives of the families who will live here, offering them stability and a place to call home, while strengthening the local community.” Chief executive of Laois Co Council, Michael Rainey, added: “The 58 new homes we have officially opened deliver secure, high-quality accommodation for individuals and families who need it most. This achievement reflects the strength of our partnership with the voluntary housing sector and our ongoing commitment to leading the way nationally in the delivery of social housing, consistently surpassing our targets.

‘‘Developments such as these play a vital role in supporting our rural towns and villages, giving people the opportunity to put down roots and build their futures here in Laois. I would like to acknowledge the dedication and collaboration of all those involved in bringing these projects to completion.” The residential schemes consist of 58 modern homes, providing much-needed accommodation for individuals and families on the council’s housing list. The development forms part of Laois Co Council’s ongoing commitment to increase the supply of social housing and support sustainable communities across the county.

All homes have been designed to a high standard with a focus on energy efficiency, accessibility and integration into the existing community. The scheme represents a significant investment in the Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick municipal district and will contribute positively to the long-term housing needs of the area.
