Laois Dog Owners Urged to Act Responsibly Ahead of Lambing Season

With lambing season fast-approaching, Laois County Council is calling on all dog owners to act responsibly as lambing season approaches:

Their key advisers include: reminding owners that a dog does not necessarily need to make contact with a sheep to cause serious injury; that dog owners should secure their property thus preventing their animals breaking out and into open country eventually stumbling upon fields with livestock; that dogs should never be allowed out unsupervised at this time, especially during the night; that owners should be extra vigilant in keeping a lead on their dogs whilst walking out near livestock.

Finally, they issue the warning to owners that, Under the Control of Dogs Act, dog owners are liable for damages as a result of a dog attack or livestock worry incident.

Laois County Council is asking all dog owners to play their part in protecting vulnerable livestock during this critical period.
