A LAOIS family will host a major calf care event on their farm as part of a national roadshow.

The McEvoys from Rosenallis will welcome guests to their scenic farm near the Slieve Blooms in January, after they were chosen for the ‘CalfCare’ series run by Animal Health Ireland (AHI).

John, Patricia and Rory McEvoy of Clonaheen House, Rosenallis are among 16 farm families nationwide hosting on-farm events for the Winter 2025/Spring 2026 series. The Rosenallis farm will host the calf rearing showcase from 11am on Wednesday 14 January.

Running from 8 December 2025 to 22 January 2026, each event showcases best practice in calf husbandry, management and performance and is supported by the agri-food industry, including dairy co-ops and meat processors.

This year’s theme is ‘Healthy Calves, Your Profitable Future’, which aims to highlight the connection between good calf health, animal welfare and farm profitability.

The AHI said: ‘The series shows how steps taken before the calf lands, right through weaning and the first year of life, will ensure the next generation of the herd are ready to deliver for the farmer.’

The events are run in collaboration with Teagasc’s DairyBeef500 Programme, supported by Feed For Growth/Volac Milk Replacers Ireland Ltd.
