Laois gardaí seize car with screwdriver as gear stick

GARDAÍ who stopped a car in Laois were shocked to find a screwdriver in place of a gear stick.

‘This Volkswagen had more DIY than B&Q,’ gardaí said today, as they posted photographs from the scene on social media.

The driver also proved to have no insurance and the dangerous vehicle was seized and towed away.

While they didn’t disclose the location, gardaí said: ‘Just when you think you've seen it all. Laois Roads Policing Unit (RPU) stopped this vehicle being driven without insurance yesterday. The gear stick was replaced with a screwdriver.'

Using the hashtag #youcantmakethisup, they added: ‘The vehicle was dangerous, illegal and not even slightly roadworthy.’ 

The driver will be facing a court appearance for a series of traffic offences.
