Laois man aggrieved after being asked to leave pub

Carlow Court House

A GRAIGUECULLEN man who went out for the night with his wife but who was asked to leave a pub in Carlow town was brought before the local district court on public order offences. Fionn Kehoe, 23 Springhill Court, Graiguecullen was summoned to court for being intoxicated in a public place and for engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour at The Barracks bar, Tullow Street, Carlow on 9 December 2023.

The court heard that 30-year-old Mr Kehoe pleaded guilty to the intoxication offence, while the garda withdrew the threatening behaviour charge.

Sergeant Hud Kelly told Judge Geraldine Carthy that gardaí were called to Tullow Street, where they saw a man being restrained on the ground outside The Barracks by two security guards. He said that the man was shouting and was intoxicated.

Solicitor Chris Hogan said that Mr Kehoe and his wife were on a night out in Carlow town and that he’d just bought two drinks in that pub when he was asked to leave. He said that Mr Kehoe was “aggrieved by his treatment” and that he hadn’t been able to work since due to an injury to his hand, which was the subject of a civil matter against the owner of the pub.

Judge Carthy said that the defendant was “fortunate” that the gardaí withdrew one of the offences and then convicted and fined him €300 on the intoxication charge.
