Laois-Offaly Garda appeal after fatal crash

GARDAÍ in Laois-Offaly are appealing for witnesses after a fatal crash in the division late last night.
A man aged in his 30s died in the single vehicle crash on the road between Tullamore and Portarlington.
The crash happened at Ballina Cross, Annaharvey, Tullamore shortly before midnight on Monday 4 August.
A section of the road remains closed this morning between Geashill and Tullamore and traffic diversions are in place.
The R420 between Geashill and Cloncollig Roundabout, Tullamore, is closed while a technical examination is carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
The body of the man was removed to the mortuary at Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore for a post-mortem examination.
In a social media alert this morning, gardaí said: ‘An Garda Síochána are currently attending the scene of a serious road traffic collision at Ballina Cross on the R420 (Portarlington Road).
‘There are a number of road closures in place.
‘Motorists are advised to avoid the area and follow local diversions.
‘The road will remain closed for a period to allow for a full forensic collision investigation to take place.
‘We ask the public for their cooperation and understanding.
‘Please slow down, be patient and plan alternative routes if travelling in the area.
‘Further updates will be provided as appropriate.’
Anyone with camera footage, including dash-cam who was travelling in the area between about 11.40pm and midnight is asked to make the footage available to gardaí.
