Laois school launches big Tractor and Truck Run

The St Colman's NS team at the icy launch of the upcoming Tractor and Truck Run
A LOCAL primary school will run a big Tractor and Truck Run to raise funds for its new astroturf pitch.
After an icy launch during the big freeze, St Colman’s NS in Stradbally hopes the event on Sunday 2 February will herald the brighter days of spring.
Organised by the parents’ council, the Tractor and Truck Run will set off from Stradbally Town and Country at 1.30pm on a route around the parish, with all proceeds going to the completion and enhancement of the new astroturf facility.
The fun event will include a junior tractor run and a big raffle, with refreshments served in St Joseph’s Hall.
At the official launch of the upcoming run, principal Brian Lynch was joined by Michael Knowles from the board of management, students MJ and Kasey Carroll and parents’ council members James Moloney (chairperson), Gráinne Buggie, Gary Oxley and Ellen O’Keeffe.
The group thanked all the businesses, organisations and individuals that generously supported past events, which included the last run held five years ago to kickstart the astroturf pitch project.
The facility completed last October is enjoyed by everyone at the large school with 330 pupils, providing a safe, year-round space for physical education, sports and outdoor activities.
The pitch is also a valuable resource for other schools and clubs in the wider community, as well as a venue for Cumann na mBunscol matches and other sporting events.
Tractors and trucks of all shapes and sizes will roll out for the colourful run, which promises to be a great day out for all the family.
The school astroturf pitch was developed under the Sports Capital Programme, delivered through the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
