Laois school walks to Croke Park and back!

A wonderful day at Timahoe NS

TIMAHOE NS pupils have walked the entire distance to and from Croke Park, without ever leaving the school grounds.

Determined children smashed their target of walking 208km, as part of their sponsored ‘Walk to Croke Park 2026’ event.

The imaginative fundraiser saw students, staff and parents team up to complete the full distance on the school’s new walking and running track, which was installed during the summer and is proving to be a great asset in terms of fitness and wellbeing.

It was an amazing achievement on Friday 16 January, when the children of Timahoe NS walked every kilometre from their home village to the home of the GAA, without even crossing the county border.

A spokesperson for Scoil Mhuire Fatima said: ‘The children showed fantastic determination, resilience and team spirit throughout the day and both staff and parents were so proud of them.’

School principal Michael McEvoy congratulated students on their remarkable achievement and thanked staff and parents for their huge contribution to the event.

He said: ‘We are very lucky to have such a supportive parents’ association in the school and this is another example of the fantastic work they do.

“The active and fun nature of this event really caught the imagination of the children and our parent body, which could be seen clearly in the turnout.

‘Well done to all the pupils, parents and staff who helped make this such a special and successful event. It’s a day that will be remembered for a very long time.’
