Laois schoolboy praised for 'stunning' attendance record

A LAOIS schoolboy has been praised for a remarkable attendance record, having missed only five days during eight years of primary school.

Ryan Farrell (13), who has just celebrated his Confirmation, received his exceptional attendance certificate from Scoil Phádraig Naofa in Mountmellick.

Attaching a kind note, school principal John Murrell wrote: ‘That is an absolutely stunning record. Well done and congratulations.’

Ryan didn’t miss a single day during five of his eight years at the school. He was unavoidably absent for just one day in first class and two days in both second and fifth class. His brother Conor (10) also attends the school.

Sending photos to the Laois Nationalist, Ryan’s mother Eleanor said: ‘I believe it's hitting the papers now that parents are potentially to be fined for kids missing school, so I wanted to share my son’s success story.’

A son of Eleanor and Michael Farrell, Ryan is looking forward to starting at Mountmellick Community School, where his sister Isabel also received an attendance certificate for excellent third year attendance this year.
