Laois team narrowly loses out in finals of indoor bowling league

The league finals took place in Vicarstown Hall, which were hosted by Vicarstown Indoor Bowling Club.
INDOOR bowling is fast becoming a popular sport in Laois with a growing number of clubs and members joining.
Last week saw the indoor league finals takes place in Vicarstown Hall, which were hosted by Vicarstown Indoor Bowling Club.
Teams from Portlaoise, Monasterevin, St. Joseph’s Castlemitchel, Vicarstown, Timahoe, Abbey Bowls Clough/Ballacolla and St. John’s Athy Indoor Bowling Clubs competed for the annual league winners title and the Kelly Lou Cakes Perpetual Trophy.
Some great games led up to the semi-finals that saw Abbey Bowls Clough Ballacolla take on the home team with the visitors coming out victorious. The second semi-final was between St. Joseph’s Castlemitchel and Timahoe with the Kildare four-man team just narrowly making it to the final.
The final was a close enough encounter with the Kildare team getting their bowls closer to the jack (target ball) than their Laois rivals and emerging as this year’s league winners.
There was a large group of supporters from all teams that made for an excellent atmosphere throughout the night.
The winning perpetual trophy was presented to the St. Joseph’s Castlemitchel team captain Tom Harris, while the four team runners up received a dinner voucher each to dine at Cul Mhuire in Athy which was sponsored by Sr. Consilio.
Refreshments on the night were provided by Bosco Catering.
The organisers thanked all those who have supported and joined the various teams around the county and issued an invitation to anyone interested in taking up the sport to drop along to the Vicarstown Indoor Bowling Club in the Vicarstown Hall any Wednesday night at 7.30pm.
