A LOCAL writer’s first children’s book highlights the deep history and culture of alpaca farming.
by Caroline Cornelissen from Monavea, Crettyard, follows a conversation between a mother alpaca and her crea Tahulla. The conversation explores the alpaca’s origin and history in Peru and their significance in cultures around the world.
While volunteering with a neighbour on their alpaca farm, Caroline discovered she knew very little about the animals. This urged her to research alpacas and find out more about the animals.
Born and raised near Maganey in Co Kildare, Caroline (née Flinter), after much research, decided to write a book that would both educate people on alpacas and be a fun light-hearted read.
The book, which has been illustrated by local artist Grace Conroy, can be bought online at Alpacas in Green Pastures.
All profits from the book will be donated to Carlow SPCA and the Animal Peace Garden in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
