Learner on cannabis does 180kph in Laois village

A LEARNER motorcyclist who tested positive for cannabis was arrested by gardaí last night, after doing 180kph in a Laois village.
The motorcycle was eventually stopped near Carlow, after a pursuit by the Laois Roads Policing Unit.
Gardaí said today that the motorcycle (pictured above) was pursued after speeding through Arles village on the N80 late last night.
According to gardaí, the motorbike was recorded traveling at speeds ‘well in excess of 180kph’, before it was stopped on the outskirts of Carlow town. The road through the village is a 50kph zone.
The driver, a learner permit holder was arrested after failing a roadside drug test for cannabis.
The motorbike was seized and the driver has been charged to appear before an upcoming sitting of Carlow District Court.
