Meeting tonight in Mountrath over proposed quarry

The meeting takes place in Bloom HQ, Mountrath at 7.30pm.

A public meeting is taking place in Bloom HQ Mountrath tonight Thursday 17 October regarding plans for the development of a quarry at an existing quarry at the townlands of Mounthall and Cummer in Camross.

Breedon Materials Limited (trading as Breedon Ireland) is seeking planning permission at an existing quarry at the townlands of Mounthall and Cummer, Camross.

The company plan to extract 800,000 tonnes of gravel and sand from the site as well the removal of 51,000 tonnes of topsoil and stored before being replaced once the quarrying is complete.

While the existing gravel pit measures 1.2 hectares (3 acres) the company is hoping for planning approval to extend the quarrying area to cover around 8 hectares (20 acres) of the site.

The meeting organisers – ‘Say no to Glendine Quarry’ – are opposed to the plans and are invited those interested in what is planned for the area to attend the meeting which begins at 7.30pm.
