Morning drink driver arrested in Mountmellick

A garda MIT checkpoint in Mountmellick this morning

A DRIVER who failed a roadside breath test was arrested in Mountmellick this morning.

The car was seized at a garda checkpoint (pictured) in the town centre, after the driver tested positive for alcohol.

Gardaí said today that the Laois Roads Policing Unit is operating MIT (mandatory intoxicant testing) checkpoints throughout the county, as the Christmas Road Safety campaign continues.

They said: ‘This morning in Mountmellick, one driver was arrested after they failed a roadside breath test. The message remains the same. Never ever drink and drive.’

The drink driver's vehicle was seized at the scene by gardaí.

Meanwhile, a vehicle being driven without insurance was also seized by gardaí in Portarlington last night.
