Mountmellick Macra Capers team makes national Top Three
The Mountmellick Macra Capers team put in a terrific performance at the national final
MAGNIFICENT members of the Mountmellick Macra Capers team are celebrating an outstanding third place finish, in the FBD National Capers Final.
Capers is a 20-minute variety show that brings together music, movement, storytelling and humour, in a rollercoaster ride that sends audiences rolling relentlessly down the aisles.
Competing against seven teams at the event held in Ovens, Co Cork on 31 January, Mountmellick’s brand-new team of 11 performers reached the top three for their original show ‘Wicked Ways and Hotel Stays’.
It is a remarkable achievement, particularly coming just one year after winning the national final. Freemount Macra took first place, with Callan Macra second.
Under Capers rules, last year’s winning team was required to step aside for a year, meaning Mountmellick could return only with an entirely new cast. However, many members of the 2025 winning team travelled to Cork to support their clubmates, in what the club described as ‘a powerful display of loyalty, friendship and true Macra spirit’.
The third-placed team captivated the audience with a vibrant mix of comedy, dance, live instruments and poetry, delivering a confident and entertaining performance that showcased both talent and teamwork.
The Mountmellick Macra club said members were thrilled to see such huge interest and commitment to the fantastic competition.
With eyes already firmly on the future, Mountmellick Macra are looking ahead to next year, eager to see what the 2025 champions and the 2026 third-placed team can create. Given the terrific results of the past two years, the future of Capers in Mountmellick looks very bright indeed.
The cast for ‘Wicked Ways and Hotel Stays’ was Darragh Prendergast, Emer Feighery, Ava Prendergast, Jane McEvoy, Enda Feighery, Ruth Rawlinson, Hannah Dempsey, Cathal Kenny, Sam Wynne, Ellie Fitzpatrick and Áine Delaney.
The show was produced by Rosemary O'Gorman and AC Reynolds and choreographed by Louise Ahern.
Backstage on the night were Andrew Dunne, Chris Joyce, Kevin Scott, AC Reynolds and Larry Ryan, while sound and lighting were in the expert hands of Louise Ahern, Nathan Flanagan and Aidan Moore.
