Oldest festival in Laois returns next weekend

The oldest festival in Laois will return on Sunday 17 August

THE oldest festival in Laois will proudly unveil a big expansion when it returns on Sunday 17 August.

The famous Festival of the Mountain in Glenbarrow, Rosenallis will be the biggest ever, since it was first held way back in 1962.

The beautiful site has been significantly expanded to accommodate more on-site parking for visitors, making the experience more accessible for all the family with something for all ages.

The endless list of entertainment ranges from chicken racing, King and Queen of the Mountain competitions, a dog show and vintage vehicles to archery, drumming, Irish dancing, sheep shearing, Comhaltas, face painting, amusements, a raffle with great prizes and much more. And of course, it wouldn’t be the Festival of the Mountain without the infamous Tug of War.

Highlights of the 2025 festival will include music from New Light Duo and the Timahoe Male Choir, entertainment from Rock On Paddy and special performances by The Red Embers Belly Dancers.

The fun starts at noon and the cash-only entry fee is €10, while children under 12 go free.
