Woman (50s) dies, child in critical condition following Cavan crash

A woman in her 50s has died in a crash in Co Cavan and a young girl is in a critical condition.

The collision, involving a car and a truck, happened on the R162 at Corclare, Shercock just after 5pm on Friday evening.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

A young girl, who was a passenger in the car, was rushed to Temple Street Children's Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

Gardaí say a number of other people travelling in the car and truck received medical treatment at the scene.

The road remains closed today for a forensic examination with local diversions in place.

Any road users who were travelling in this area between 4.45pm and 5.15pm yesterday and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
