A BOTTLE of Paddy was in the front passenger seat when a ‘very drunk’ driver was stopped by Laois gardaí.
The whiskey was escorted to an evidence locker, after it was found riding shotgun in the vehicle today.
Tongue-in-cheek gardaí said on social media: ‘Paddy wasn’t on the policy, didn’t have a seatbelt and offered no comment.’
The red Kia Ceed was stopped by the Laois Roads Policing Unit, after an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) alert for no road tax.
In a social media post titled ‘Front Seat Passenger: Paddy’, gardaí said the driver was very drunk and the tax expired 255 days ago, or just over eight months.
The post on the An Garda Síochána Laois Offaly Facebook page said: ‘Front-seat passenger: a bottle of Paddy Irish Whiskey riding shotgun ... “Paddy” wasn’t on the policy, didn’t have a seatbelt, and offered no comment.
‘Outcome: Driver arrested and charged. Vehicle seized. “Paddy” escorted to the evidence locker.’
The driver faces an upcoming court appearance, when Paddy is expected to appear among the exhibits.
