A LONG-RUNNING Laois charity has issued a warning about bogus collectors, who have been calling door-to-door over the past few days.

PATH Portlaoise Action to Homelessness received reports that people are calling house to house in the Mountrath area, selling tickets on behalf of the charity.

‘This is not us and nothing to do with us,’ the charity said on social media.

Gardaí have been informed about the fake collectors and residents are urged to be vigilant.

In a warning on its Facebook page on Thursday, PATH said: ‘There are reports that people are calling house to house in the Mountrath area, selling tickets on behalf of us here at PATH.

‘The guards have been informed. We NEVER ask anyone to sell tickets for us house to house anywhere ever.’

The group that was set up to feed those who are sleeping rough travel to Dublin every weekend with food, clothes and toiletries for people living on the streets and also help local people.
