Portlaoise Christmas lights switch on next Friday

The lights will be switched on next Friday
PORTLAOISE’S Christmas lights will be switched on next Friday at a wonderful family-friendly event featuring Santa himself.
The event will start at 6pm on 29 November outside the library on Main Street, when MC Jack Nolan will open proceedings before a performance by Portlaoise Children’s Choir.
After an address by Laois County Council Cathaoirleach cllr Pádraig Fleming, Santa will welcome all the children and the glittering lights will be turned on at 6.40pm.
Santa’s big sleigh will be parked on the street, while the Community Choir will entertain the crowds with uplifting carols heralding the start of the festive season. The event will close at 8.30pm.
Meanwhile, the Dunamaise Arts Centre nearby will also get into the festive spirit with a three-day Christmas Market from Thursday to Saturday, 28-30 November, when people can enjoy artisan crafts, holiday treats, family photos with Santa and more.
The centre’s first Christmas Market brings together a curated selection of local artists and makers in a cosy marketplace with high-quality handcrafted goods, locally produced foods and holiday décor that captures the spirit of Portlaoise.
Entry is free for all visitors and the market will open from 4pm-8pm on Thursday and from 1pm-8pm on both Friday and Saturday.
