Public meeting in Laois on endometriosis

The public meeting takes place on Wednesday 23 April in the Killeshin Hotel, Portlaoise at 7pm

A PUBLIC meeting about women living with endometriosis is taking place in Portlaoise on Wednesday 23 April.

Endometriosis is an often-painful condition in which tissue that is similar to the inner lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. It often affects the ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining the pelvis.

The meeting, which takes place in the Killeshin Hotel at 7pm, is organised by Sinn Féin Senator Maria McCormack as part of her ongoing endometriosis campaign. It aims to raise awareness and demand for better healthcare services for women living with the debilitating condition.

The leader of Sinn Féin Mary Lou McDonald will also be in attendance at the meeting which will feature testimonies and insights from campaigners and advocates, including Paula Byrne, Jess Ní Mhaoláin and Sarah Jane Allen.

Senator McCormack said: “Endometriosis is one of the most underdiagnosed and misunderstood conditions affecting women in Ireland today. For too long, women have suffered in silence, dismissed or ignored by a broken healthcare system.

“This campaign is about giving women a voice, demanding proper services, and ensuring no one is left behind.”

The public meeting will allow women and families to share their experiences, ask questions and push for urgent policy change to ensure timely diagnosis, appropriate care pathways and investment in specialist services.

Members of the public and healthcare professionals are invited to attend.
