Public meeting on planned wind farm in Laois

The meeting takes place at 8pm in the CYMS Hall, Ballyragget on Monday 30 June
A PUBLIC meeting will take place on Monday 30 June at 8pm to discuss a proposed windfarm being planned between Durrow, Ballyragget and Lisdowney.
The meeting, that takes place at 8pm in the CYMS Hall, Ballyragget, follows on from an announcement in local media of a planning notice seeking permission for a wind farm development, the meeting organisers say, “raising significant concerns among local residents about the environmental, health and visual impact in the area.”
These concerns, according to the organisers, “are in line with the recent motion in Kilkenny County Council that suggested wind energy regulations in Ireland need to be updated and modernised before appropriate implementation of these significant developments can take place.”
The public meeting has been organised by a group of concerned local residents. They say that it will provide an opportunity for members of the public and local communities to learn more about the proposal, the effects and impact on their community and to hear from local stakeholders, including local councillors and TDs.
The proposed wind farm turbines are a tip height of 175 metres with a blade diameter of 150 metres, which according to the meeting organisers are “among the tallest in the country”, and includes plans for construction of a new substation and 100 metre weather mast.
