TEN students from Portlaoise College were awarded summer school language scholarships in German, French and in Irish.
Isha Bhatt and Jaela Halberstadt were awarded German summer school scholarships while Adesuwa Olague and Fadzai Nyakuonda will attend French summer school.
Gaeltacht scholarships were awarded to Emilija Siugzdinyte, Aoibheann O'Sullivan, Jeremiah Phillips, Julia Skwara, Joleen Dunne and Mosa Hafeez which will now allow them the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Irish language.
College Principal Noel Daly said: “We are incredibly proud of our students’ dedication to language learning. These scholarships provide them with fantastic opportunities to develop their skills and cultural understanding, which will benefit them in the future.”
The college’s commitment to language education extends beyond scholarships as it actively participates in the Erasmus programme with partner schools in France, South Tyrol and Spain. The initiative allows students to engage in language exchange and cultural experiences, further enhancing their linguistic abilities.
“With these initiatives,” said Mr Daly, “Portlaoise College continues to foster a passion for languages, ensuring students gain valuable international experiences that will serve them well in their future careers.”
