Search for Laois heroes with €80k prize fund
The search is on for community heroes in Laois, as part of a nationwide callout with a prize fund of €80,000.
Four winners will receive €20,000 each for charity in the AXA Community Hero Awards, which recognise people who go out of their way to help others.
People are invited to nominate someone who makes a meaningful difference in their area, before the closing date of 4pm on Monday 5 January.
Heroes can be nominated in one of four categories - road safety, mental health, sustainability and women’s safety and wellbeing.
Four community heroes will be selected from around the country, with the winners receiving €20,000 each to donate to their chosen charity.
According to insurance company AXA Ireland, the judging panel will be looking for people who have demonstrated ‘leadership, innovation and creativity’ to help others. The winners will be announced later in January.
Elizabeth Arnett of AXA said: “So many of us know someone who always goes the extra mile to help shape a better future for everyone in their community. AXA want to show them how much their efforts mean and give a real boost to causes close to their hearts.”
To make a nomination, people can use no more than 150 words to explain how someone has positively impacted their community under one of the four categories and why they should be recognised as a Community Hero.
Nominations can be submitted online at www.axa.ie. Staff at AXA’s Laois branch at Unit 8 Lyster Square, Portlaoise will be happy to answer any questions people have about the nomination process.
