Songs for joy in O'Moore Place
Fantastic performances at Music on the Green
A MEMORABLE outdoor concert in Portlaoise brought young and not so young together for a feast of music in O’Moore Place.
Music on the Green saw local children and the Community Choir join forces for an uplifting celebration, which marked the culmination of a week of musical workshops.
The workshops were organised by Laois Partnership Company’s SICAP (Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme) team, in collaboration with Music Generation Laois (MGL).
Throughout the week, children enjoyed free music workshops, where they learned songs and explored instruments in a fun and inclusive environment, as part of an initiative funded by SICAP and Healthy Ireland.
Their efforts culminated in a shared performance alongside the Community Choir, showcasing the power of music to unite and uplift.
Children from Laois Partnership Company’s childcare centres also took part in the event, contributing to the joyful and collaborative spirit of the occasion.
The concert was attended by about 100 people, reflecting the strong sense of community in O’Moore Place and surrounding areas.
SICAP aims to help disadvantaged communities overcome barriers to social inclusion, with services ranging from childcare assistance to after-school and youth projects, mental health initiatives, projects addressing substance abuse and community health programmes.
Laois Partnership Company implements SICAP for the county, providing targeted assistance to marginalised communities and individuals such as the unemployed, residents of deprived areas, individuals with disabilities, single-parent families, low-income earners, members of the Traveller and Roma communities and other disadvantaged groups.
