Students from over 30 nationalities display their culture in Portlaoise College

PORTLAOISE College hosted a vibrant, colourful and diverse Intercultural Day last week when students from over 30 nationalities came together to celebrate their unique cultures.
The day was organised by teachers Mr O'Neill, Ms Puslednik, Mr Walsh, and Ms Wilson.
Each of the students from the various nationalities in the college had their own stands that showcased and celebrated their traditional dress, food, maps and photographs from their homelands.
Students, staff and the many visitors had the opportunity to explore different cultures and sample a variety of the international delicacies.
The official judges awarded the best displays to Ukraine, Poland, South Korea, Costa Rica, and Vietnam and commended the students for their creativity and cultural representations.
The college’s Home School Community Liaison Coordinator Mr O'Neill praised all the students for their collective efforts, saying, “It was wonderful to see such pride in their heritage and the sense of unity that the event fostered among the school community.”
College Principal Noel Daly said: “Intercultural Day is one of the highlights of our year. It celebrates the diversity within our school and teaches us to appreciate the beauty of different cultures. The event was as a great success, bringing students and staff together in a day of learning, sharing, and celebration.”
