Terrifying masked burglary at Laois home

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the burglary
A SHOCKED Laois woman discovered two men in balaclavas upstairs when she returned to her home this evening.
According to a family member, the intruders ran at the woman’s daughter with a weapon during the terrifying incident shortly after 5pm.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the break-in, which happened at a house in Lough Gate, Portarlington.
The People of Port social media page posted a distressed message this evening from one of the woman’s daughters, who said: ‘My mam went to collect my sister from work, came home to two men upstairs in her house wearing balaclavas, so didn’t see faces.
‘They ran at my sister with a weapon, not sure if it was a screwdriver or knife as she was so startled.
‘They ran off on foot either towards Killenard or back field. Guards at the scene at the moment. Everyone be extra vigilant in surrounding areas.’
Gardaí confirmed that they responded to a reported burglary soon after 5pm at a residence in the Lough Gate housing estate at Bracklone, Portarlington. Two intruders fled the scene empty-handed when the homeowner returned. No injuries were reported and an investigation is underway.
