Three new train services for Portlaoise

Portlaoise Train Station

THREE new train services are set to be launched in Portlaoise, Iarnród Éireann has confirmed.

The three new services are the 6am morning train leaving Heuston Station will now stop at Portlaoise at 6.42am; the train from Cork to Dublin will now stop at Portlaoise at 10.25am (this will be a new service from Portlaoise to Dublin); and the Cork train to Portlaoise, which leaves in the late afternoon, will now stop at Portlaoise at 17.50pm on its way to Heuston Station, Dublin.

In a statement, Laois TD Sean Fleming welcomed the development, but expressed disappointment that the new schedule amendments did not include the introduction of a late-night train service after 11 pm, leaving Dublin Heuston bound for Portlaoise.

He said: “I will continue to fight for this service as it is vitally important for people who use the train station in Portlaoise. While there is some movement in relation to improving this service in Portlaoise, this late-night train service leaving Dublin is the most critical improvement we need at this point in time.”
