Two elderly people seriously injured in Laois crash

TWO elderly people suffered serious injuries in a two-car crash in Laois last night.
The driver of one car left the scene following the collision near Ballinakill at about 10.15pm.
The other driver, aged in his 80s and a female passenger in her 70s were brought to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore, where they are receiving treatment for serious injuries.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the collision on the L7797 local road near Moat, Ballinakill.
The driver of the second car left the scene and gardaí are seeking to identify this person.
The road remained closed at 11am this morning as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out an examination at the crash scene. Traffic diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
In an appeal today, gardaí said: 'Road users who were travelling in the vicinity of the L7797 Moat, Ballinakill between 10pm and 11pm on Friday 31 July and who may have camera footage - including dash-cam - are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.'
