TWO terrific groups from Laois will perform on the Hazelwood Stage at Electric Picnic, after winning coveted slots at the grand final of the Electric Youth contest.
The Controversy from Portlaoise and Dance on Stage from Mountmellick wowed judges at the spectacular three-hour final in Dunamaise Arts Centre on Friday, when they were cheered on by families, friends and supporters.
It’s an amazing opportunity to showcase their talents at the upcoming festival in Stradbally, which will welcome a record-breaking 80,000 fans from 29-31 August.
Other finalists who won a chance to perform at the 2025 Electric Picnic are Copa from Athlone, Cathy from Monaghan and Kendall Moody from Wicklow.
The atmosphere was truly electric at the Dunamaise, as performers aged 14-24 from all over the country vied for a chance to appear on stage at Ireland’s biggest music and arts festival, which could be their big break on the road to stardom.
Having made it through the tough semi-final stage, the coveted prizes were a chance for winners and runners-up to perform on the Hazelwood stage at the 2025 festival. Other Laois finalists were Java Light from Abbeyleix and Half Left from Durrow.
Now in its sixth year, the competition is a collaboration between Youth Work Ireland Laois, Electric Picnic, LOETB and Creative Ireland.
It is part of the Electric Youth Music and Arts initiative established in 2018 by Youth Work Ireland Laois, bringing exciting opportunities to young people from across the county and country.
