TWO learner drivers have been arrested by Laois gardaí for serious traffic offences on the M7 motorway.

One driver tested positive for cocaine and had no insurance, while the other was caught speeding at 151kph.

The cars were seized from both drivers and court proceedings have begun.

Gardaí said today that both learner permit holders were pulled in by members of the Laois Roads Policing Unit, who were on motorway patrol.

Posting photos on the An Garda Síochána Laois Offlay social media page, they said: ‘One driver was found to be under the influence of cocaine and had no insurance. The other was detected travelling at 151kph.

‘Both vehicles were seized. Court proceedings have commenced.’

The cars were towed away from the motorway by recovery vehicles.
