Upcoming public meeting in Laois opposing windfarm development

A 12 turbine windfarm is planned for areas in south Kilkenny close to the Laois border.
A PUBLIC meeting is taking place this Thursday night 17 April in Ballinakill to discuss plans for the construction of a 12 turbine windfarm which is planned for areas in south Kilkenny close to Laois border.
The meeting begins at 8pm in the Parish Hall, Ballinakill and local councillors and TDs have been invited to attend.
In a leaflet drop in the area encouraging people to attend the meeting its organisers ‘No To Ballynalacken Wind Farm’ said that 12 wind turbines 155 metres in height with a wingspan of 117 metres are planned.

The group said: “We must come together and act fast.”
It said the possible effects the windfarm include: “huge off-shore sixed turbines that will tower over Ballinakill; Flicker ands low frequency noise causes sleep disruption and headaches; A second development is at pre-planning stage for the same area; Devaluation of houses and land prices up to 50%; Less opportunities for future houses or planning permission; Traffic disruption in the village and surrounding roads, traffic lights with destruction of roads with up to 6,000 plus traffic movements; Wildlife harm and water table interference; After their lifespan of between 20 to 25years they will remain and eyesore for all.”
The group said that the windfarm has: “No positive impact and no financial gains for our community."
A statement issued by Ballinakill GAA Club said: “All residents are urged to attend. Let’s ensure the future of our village is shaped by the people who live here.”
