Weed spreading rapidly along a roadside in Laois

An example of the type of 'Horsetail' weed that cllr Aisling Moran spoke about.
A WEED that started growing in a small area at Castletown near the church at Cullenagh Crossroads has rapidly spread to “well over a kilometer and completely taken over a ditch on one side of the road.”
That's according to cllr Aisling Moran who asked the council could something be done to stop its spread.
She was speaking at the October meeting of the Graiguecullen/Portarlington Municipal District Council meeting where she warned: “It’s starting to spread onto the other side of the road as well.”
Cllr Moran said that she thinks the weed is known as Equisetum Arvense 'Horsetail' or 'Horsehair'.
"I’ve done a bit of research on it and while it’s not an issue growing in an open area, if it gets into housing estates, and at the rate that it’s growing, I’d be a bit worried about it. I was also told, that it’s like Japanese Knotweed. When you cut it spores go everywhere.”
