Figures from the HSE show there are 1,045 women on waiting lists for endometriosis across five hospitals in the country at the end of 2025.

This is an increase from the 896 women on waiting lists at the end of September last year.

Endometriosis causes cells, similar to those in the lining of the womb, to grow outside the uterus and can cause a range of symptoms, with some people experiencing chronic, debilitating pain.

The hospital with the highest number of women on waiting lists for endometriosis care is the Rotunda Hospital, with 352 women on waiting lists.

This includes 107 women waiting over a year on waiting lists. 65 women are waiting between nine months and a year, with 62 women waiting between six and nine months.

49 women are waiting between three and six months, while 69 women are waiting up to three months at the Rotunda.

At Tallaght University Hospital, 342 women are on waiting lists, with 63 women waiting over a year.

67 women are waiting between nine and 12 months, with 66 women between six and nine months.

94 women are waiting between three nd six months, with 52 women waiting up to three months.

Cork University Hospital has 213 women on waiting lists for endometriosis, with 122 of these women waiting up to three months.

69 women are waiting up to three months, while 21 women are waiting up to nine months. There is one person waiting for over a year.

At the Coombe Hospital, 102 women are on waiting lists, with 55 women waiting up to six months, and eight people on waiting lists between six and nine months.

At University Maternity Hospital Limerick, 36 women are waiting for endometriosis care, with 33 waiting between zero and three months.

It is believed to affect as many as one in seven women in Ireland, and there is no known cure.

Speaking on Friday, Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill said 10 people have travelled abroad for endometriosis surgery in the last six months.
