Portlaoise CBS who were crowned Br Hubert Shield - Leinster 1st Year 'B' Football champions following the defeat of Wexford CBS on Tuesday

PORTLAOISE CBS were crowned 1st Year Leinster 'B’ Football Champions after putting in a near perfect display against Wexford CBS in Carlow on today.

They led from start to finish and were definitely full value for their win as they impressed all over the field.

There were excellent displays all over the pitch, up front Ben McCormack, Tyler Whelan and Jack Bergin were brilliant while Reaghan Mullen, Billy Conroy and Sean Slattery also put in match winning displays.

Portlaoise CBS got off to a dream start as they hit the net in the very first minute, a brilliant move ended up with Ben McCormack who made no mistake in finding the net and his side never looked back from that moment.

The Wexford side looked stunned from the start and never really got a foothold in the game.

The Portlaoise school had all the possession and were winning all the dirty ball around the middle of the field. Tyler Whelan added a point to give them a 1-1 to 0-0 score lead after six minutes.

Jack Bergin who was excellent in the first half linking play added to the scoreboard and it was all Portlaoise in the opening ten minutes.

McCormack added two more brilliant frees to put Portlaoise CBS in full control. Whelan then added another point to leave the scores at 1-5 to 0-0.

It took Wexford CBS 20 minutes to get on the scoresheet from a point from Cormac Carley to reduce the gap to seven points.

Portlaoise CBS finished the half stronger and would add two more points from Sean Slattery and Jack Ryan to leave the scores at 1-7 to 0-1 at half time in favour of the Portlaoise side.

Portlaoise CBS started the second half where they left off at the end of first half and would hit four points in a row to finish the game as a contest.

Two Ben McCormack frees followed by a point from Bergin and midfielder Corey Doheny put them 12 points ahead.

The Wexford school replied through Darragh Bennett as they tried to mount a comeback, but it never materialised as Portlaoise CBS remained in control.

Doheny would land another point to finish off The Portlaoise scoring with six minutes remaining.

Despite late scores from Lucas Hayes and Gearoid Moran, there was no stopping Portlaoise CBS claiming the title.
