Strong performances at Laois Masters Road Championships

THERE was a great evening of racing in Portlaoise on Wednesday last as athletes from across the county competed in the Laois Masters Road Championships, with impressive individual and team performances on display throughout the event.

The women’s 3K race saw excellent competition across all age categories. In the O/35 section, Claire Phelan claimed gold, followed by Paula Guinan in second place and Deirdre Delaney in third. While Karen Kavanagh secured victory in the O/55 race.

In the women’s team standings, St. Abban’s AC, Claire, Deirdre and Sinead captured the O/35 title, with St. Michael’s AC finishing second and Camross Runners AC taking third place.

The men’s 6K race also produced strong performances across the various age grades. In the O55 category, Ronan O’Rielly claimed gold followed by Liam Byrne and Aengus Burke, while Martin McDonald took victory in the O/65 category ahead of Francis Fleming and JJ Stapleton.

Congratulations to all athletes who took part and represented their clubs so proudly at another successful county championship event.
