Rebecca Allen from Ballyroan who two darts titles last week - Girls World Open Champion and Girls World Masters Champion
REBECCA Allen who plays darts with Carlow County Youth Darts enjoyed a successful week in Budapest last week as she walked away with two titles in two days, as she was crowned Girls World Open Champion and Girls World Masters Champion as well as booking her spot in the WDF World Championships at Lakeside next month.
Rebecca, who is from Ballyroan, is one of the most promising young players in the world of darts and has been tipped as a future world champion by many of those within Carlow Darts.
First up was the World Open Championship where she beat WDF ranked number one player, Paige Pauling in the final in a tough game on Friday. From there it was into the World Masters. She topped her group without dropping a leg and progressed through to the semi-finals where she defeated the German Marie Huber.
In the final, she beat the WDF number two ranked player, Ruby Grey on Saturday.
She then went into the World Championship qualifiers looking to book her spot at Lakeside next month and won her semi-final match against Ceylin Atas from Turkey to qualify for the Girls World Championships in Lakeside next month where she’ll go into the semi-finals. She’ll face her opponent from the Masters final in Grey there with Pauling potentially awaiting in the final.
Carlow Youth Darts Secretary, Gillian Dee says there will be high expectations for Rebecca on the big stage.
“She'd be the favourite to win the semi-final. And then she'd be up against Paige Pauling, who is the WDF ranked number one, assuming Paige wins her game on the other side, which she would be favoured to do as well,” Gillian told the .
“And she's actually playing in Killarney playing doubles with Rebecca at the moment, they're great friends, but they're like 50-50, whoever turns up on the day will win it. We’ve great expectations on her to actually win Lakeside. Paige and Rebecca, are the two top girls really in the world, you know. And as I said, any of them could kind of win it on the day, but at the moment, Becca is playing better than Paige so she would be probably favourite I'd say to win out the Lakeside title now so it's fantastic, exciting times,” she added.
