Super seven for St Abban’s at the Leinster Juvenile Relays

Fit4 Life Stage 2 gets underway in Killeen

ST Abban’s AC had a large crowd out competing on Saturday at the Leinster Juvenile Relays held in SETU Carlow. Overall, the club won seven sets of medals across a wide range of age groups with athletes competing across even and uneven ages.

The Girls U/9 team won silver medals. The team of Ciara, Marnie, Beatrice and Hannah came second after completing 100m each. The Girls U/15 team of Zoe, Faye, Roisin and Lily also finished in second place.

Boys U/17 4 x 400m relay, Kalem, Will, Eoghan Mitchell and Eoin Mulkerrins finished in third place winning bronze medals. The Girls U/12 4 x 100m Relay team also won bronze medals with Meabh, Ava, Penelope and Shana.

In the U/14 event Roisín, Sophie, Eabha and Faye won silver medals. The U/18 girls also won silver medals with Cara, Rachel, Aayliah and Elaine combining. The final medal winners were the Boys U/12 who won gold. The team of Liam, Tom, Ruben and Leo ran brilliant races to take victory.

Well done to the other athletes who competed across the day. We had a number of team narrowly miss out on medals but gain great experience along the way.

Leinster Combined Events The Athletics Leinster Combined Events took place on Sunday with athletes making the short journey to SETU Carlow for the competition. There were four medal winners from the club across Girls U/11, Girls U/12, Boys U/12 and Girls U/18.

Ava Brophy claimed gold in the Girls U/11 Quadathlon after coming out on top after the four events - 60m Sprint, Distance, Long Jump and Shot Putt. Meabh Kearney finished in ninth place in the same event. Penelope McMahon was the winner of the U/12 Quadathlon.

There were six boys from the club competing in the Boys U/12 Quadathlon. Liam Doyle came out on top taking home the gold medal. Leo Smith was just outside the medals in fourth place. Edward McDonald was eighth, Reuben Kelly ninth, Tom Condron 14th and Brennin Haughney 15th.

In the Girls U/15 Pentathlon Roisin Kearney finished just outside the podium in fourth place. In the Boys U/13 Jack Ramsbottom was eighth.

The final medallist of the day came in the U/18 Pentathlon when Cara English claimed top spot after the five events - Hurdles, Long Jump, Shot Putt, Sprint and Distance.

Fit4Life Summer League - Stage 2 Killeen Well done to the 190 walkers, joggers and runners who travelled to Killeen for Stage 2 of this year's Fit4Life Summer League.

Kristian Redmond was first across the line in 13:22, with Sinead Fitzpatrick first female home (4th place overall) in a time of 14:08.

The next stage will take place in Rossmore on Wednesday 4 June starting at 7.30pm.
