The Great Heath returns on Sunday 19 January

THE countdown is on for the muchly anticipated race The Great Heath Run which takes place Sunday 19 January starting at The Heath GAA Club (R32 HF72) which is sponsored by GreenFeet LawnCare.

For over a decade now the race has attracted runners from all over the country and this race will be no different as it has become one of the most popular races around as we enter the New Year.

The race promises to beat their high standards of years gone by, by delivering everything participants have come to enjoy – competitive races, family fun, and a celebration of community spirit.

Last year, over 400 runners braved the cold and windy weather to tackle the attractive scenic routes that The Heath has to offer.

This year the organisers are hoping entries will be well up on last year, as new participants will turn up in their droves including runners from GR8 Heath Running group and the Field to 5km which are running groups set up in the club in recent months.

The event features two chip-timed races: First up is a 10km loop of The Heath starting at 11am followed by a 5km race beginning shortly after. The race also caters for family walks or whoever wants to soak in the scenic routes.

Organiser Michael Lenihan is looking forward to the run yet again and cannot wait to soak in the competitive and friendly atmosphere which is created in the great race.

He said: “We love seeing the community come together for this event, whether its families enjoying the fun run or competitive athletes looking for a personal best. There’s something for everyone, and the atmosphere is always fantastic.” The club will provide facilities such as offering parking, changing rooms, showers, toilets, and the famous post-race refreshments that always goes down a treat for the competitors.
