Olivia Rodrigo has explained that her third album is a “time capsule of a relationship in all its highs and lows”.
The American singer’s album You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love was released on Friday, with Rodrigo posting a letter to her fans on Instagram about its message.
She wrote: “My third album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love is out now!!!! I love this album so much and I am so thrilled that it’s finally yours.
“The record is a time capsule of a relationship in all its highs and lows. It’s my attempt at capturing love from both sides of the coin.
“The hope and the disappointment. The insanity and the clarity. The entanglement and the unravelling.”
The 23-year-old then went on to thank her management and studio team for their support.
“I have so many people to thank for making this album a reality but I am most grateful to my producer Dan Nigro. He has been my musical confidant for five years now and I had the most wonderful time making all of these songs with him,” she continued.
Concluding the post, the singer thanked her fans, writing: “Most of all, thank you guys for listening. It sounds corny but I truly feel so lucky that I get to share in this journey with you all.

“The idea of someone listening to these songs and letting them into their world is the most wonderful thing I can think of. Here’s to hoping!”
Rodrigo released her debut album Sour in 2021 and followed it up with Guts two years later.
She was most recently in a relationship with English actor Louis Partridge, also 23.

They reportedly broke up in December last year while she was writing her new album.
Speaking to the BBC this week, Rodrigo detailed how the tone of the album changed from her initial plans.
“I really wanted to capture romantic joy and pleasure for the first time, because my last two albums were very heartbroken and really angsty,” she said.
But she added it instead now focused on a “love story that falls apart”.
