Woman (20s) fighting for life after serious head injuries in apparent assault in Co Tipperary

A young woman has been airlifted to hospital after she was believed to have been violently assaulted in Co Tipperary.
The woman, in her 20s, was found with extensive head injuries at Birdhill, about 20 km from Limerick, shortly after 7pm on Saturday.
Sources said the woman had suffered catastrophic head injuries and that she was fighting for life in hospital.
HSE paramedics were assisted by the Shannon-based Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter in airlifting the female casualty to University Hospital Limerick.
The woman’s condition is said to be critical.
Gardaí have sealed off the area where the woman was found as part of a major investigation.
